In response to the call of the Macao Blood Transfusion Service, the Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (hereinafter referred to as “Macao Union Medical Center”) organized its first staff blood drive activity on 17 and 18 December, demonstrating tangible support for this noble cause.
The Macao Union Medical Center set up a temporary blood drive station during the two-day activity. Lei Wai Seng, Deputy Director of the Macao Union Medical Center; Shen Ning, Staff Equivalent to Deputy Director of the Macao Union Medical Center; and Hui Ping, Director of the Macao Blood Transfusion Service, showed their support at the venue. A staff member participating in the activity said, “As a healthcare worker, rolling up my sleeves to donate blood is an instinct that goes beyond my duty. I am so honored that I can give the gift of life to protect patients.”
As Macao’s population continues to grow, the demand for blood increases every year. Being one of the public medical institutions in Macao, the Macao Union Medical Center hopes that this activity can not only contribute to the blood reserve for clinical use and relieve blood shortage, but also uphold the original intention of safeguarding life, thereby empowering health workers in their vocation of saving the dying and healing the wounded.
