Macao Union Medical Center

About Us

Officially commenced operation on 16 September 2024, the Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (hereinafter referred to as “Macao Union Medical Center”) is a large-scale, comprehensive public medical institution established by the Macao SAR Government with the support of the country. Jointly operated and managed by the Macao SAR government and the internationally renowned Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), the Macao Union Medical Center is a crucial cooperation project between the Macao SAR and the Chinese mainland in the healthcare sector under the policy of “One Country, Two Systems.”

Adjacent to Estrada do Istmo and on the northeast side of the Seac Pai Van Reservoir in Coloane, the Macao Union Medical Center covers an area of about 76,000 square meters, which incorporates the General Hospital Building, the Auxiliary Services Building, the Staff Dormitory, the Administrative Building of Integrated Services and the Central Laboratory Centre. There will be 852 beds and 26 operating rooms available, with plans to add 300 rehabilitation beds once the Islands Rehabilitation Hospital completes construction.

The Macao Union Medical Center has fully introduced the brand culture, expert teams, management philosophy, cutting-edge technology and medical resources of the PUMCH. Alongside prominent experts from the PUMCH, we are willing to recruit top experts from different specialties around the world.

As a public medical institution, the Macao Union Medical Center will prioritize providing public medical services and is committed to improving Macao’s ability to diagnose and treat complex, severe and specialty diseases, so as to offer patients more medical choices. In terms of recruitment, we will prioritize hiring local residents and training local medical professionals, as doing so will help promote the high-quality development of specialty healthcare services in the city and improve the health and well-being of Macao residents.

Since 2024, the Macao Union Medical Center has steadily provided free medical services, including specialty outpatient services, imaging and laboratory testing services to Macao residents referred by the Health Bureau. Also, we proactively conduct measures to diagnose and treat complex, severe and rare diseases in Macao, which include: launching radiation therapy for tumors, ambulatory surgery and hospital, and various distinctive specialty outpatient clinics; adopting service models of joint outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary team (MDT) for diagnosis and treatment; and actively developing different international medical services at the International Medical Centre, therefore supporting the growth of the city’s big health industry.

So far, the Macao Union Medical Center has established Macao’s largest radiation therapy center for tumors, creating a full-course tumor management platform for patients. This comprehensive platform offers full-cycle management services ranging from screening, diagnosis, treatment, to rehabilitation. Through integrating medical resources, gathering the latest treatment information and providing patient support, we are committed to improving patients’ survival rate and their quality of life. Examinations in nuclear medicine, such as Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET-CT), Positron Emission Tomography-Magnetic Resonance (PET-MR) and Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) are now available, demonstrating Macao’s new breakthrough in the development of nuclear medicine equipment.

Our vision is to become a first-class medical institution based in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with international influence across Southeast Asia. We will be on the front line of advancing Macao’s big health industry and safeguarding the health of every Macao resident and tourist with high-quality healthcare.
