The Peking Union Medical College Hospital Macau Medical Center, a medical complex on outlying islands (hereinafter referred to as "PUM-Macau Medical Center"), held its anniversary opening ceremony today (27th) and the "2nd PUMC Academic Week" event. In his speech, Secretary Ke Lan stated that, with strong support from the central government and guidance from the National Health Commission, Peking Union Medical College Hospital and the Macau SAR government have worked closely together to promote the establishment of the Peking Union Medical College Hospital Macau Medical Center in Macau. This is a successful practice of "One Country, Two Systems" in the health sector and an important milestone for Macau's medical system moving toward high-quality development. Over the past year, under the overall leadership of the Chief Executive, Xiehe Macau Medical Center has focused on three key positioning: "optimizing public healthcare, expanding high-end healthcare, and cultivating local talent." It has transitioned from the initial phase to the growth phase, achieving positive results in institutional development, medical services, and long-term empowerment.
She also put forward the following three hopes: 1. Continuing to put patients at the center, fully leveraging the technical advantages of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, strengthening the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and severe cases, and constantly introducing advanced medical technologies and equipment to provide residents with higher-quality, more efficient, and more convenient medical services. 2. Continue to establish a comprehensive talent development system to provide more learning and development opportunities for local medical professionals in Macau. At the same time, a number of influential specialty specialties will be developed in the region to attract more outstanding talent, creating a favorable environment for talent gathering and promoting the overall advancement of medical technology in Macau. 3. Moving towards the goal of becoming Macau's "golden business card" as an international metropolis, actively integrate into the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, jointly overcome medical challenges through joint research projects and academic exchange activities, promote coordinated development of the health industry, help Macau become a regional medical center, and enhance its international influence.
Inheriting the spirit of Xiehe and setting a model for the Bay Area
In his speech, Academician Zhao Yupei expressed that as someone who participated in the strategic development plan of the Xiehe Macau Medical Center, he was one of those who witnessed its growth from blueprint to its current scale. He was genuinely pleased to see the center operate smoothly, its medical, research, and teaching activities gradually getting on track, and beginning to benefit the people of Macau and surrounding areas.
He pointed out that PUMBM Macau Medical Center is not only a vivid practice of cooperation in the health sector under the "One Country, Two Systems" policy but also a successful model of regional medical collaboration and complementary advantages. The Chinese Medical Association and the Chinese Pancreatology Society will continue to fully support the construction and development of the Concord Macau Medical Center, encourage and guide outstanding medical talents from the mainland to come to Macau for exchange and cooperation, actively promote the allocation of high-quality academic resources from the association to Macao, assist the medical center in connecting with cutting-edge international medical knowledge and technology, and help it become a globally influential disease diagnosis and treatment center and medical innovation platform. It is believed that, guided by the spirit of "patriotism and love for Macau," and through the joint efforts of all forces, Xiehe Macau Medical Center will continue to inherit and carry forward Xiehe's fine traditions. By participating in international hospital accreditation, the center aims to achieve lean quality and safety, comprehensive risk management, systematic occupational safety, meticulous humanistic care, and honest doctor-patient relationships, making new and greater contributions to serving Macau residents, coordinating the development of medical and health services in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and enhancing the health and well-being of the people.
In his speech, President Zhang Shuyang pointed out that the Xiehe Macau Medical Center project is an important practice in thoroughly implementing President Xi Jinping's strategy to advance the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and is also a key livelihood project for the Macao SAR; After 10 years of meticulous planning, 3 years of dedicated construction, 2 years of meticulous preparation, and 1 year of successful operation. Peking Union Medical College Hospital will fully support the development of PUMW Macau Medical Center, including: 1) Empowering with advantages and synergistic efficiency: Strengthening Macau's medical foundation with "PUMF resources," integrating talent, technology, and online and offline forces to bridge the "last mile" of efficient, high-quality, and convenient medical services. 2) Global Perspective, Shared Opportunities: Building a "Bay Area Benchmark" with "Concord Quality," driving the upgrading of the health industry with innovative thinking, injecting new momentum into Macau's moderately diversified economic development, and advancing Concorde's internationalization strategy to new heights. 3) People-oriented, protecting health: Fulfilling the medical mission with the "Xiehe Standard," the humanistic care of Xiehe Macau Medical Center adds warmth and depth to Macau, an international cultural metropolis.
The 2nd Macau Concordia Academic Week was launched
After the opening ceremony of the anniversary celebration, Dean Wu Wenming immediately announced the official start of the two-day '2nd Macau Concordia Academic Week.'
In his speech, he stated that since its establishment, PUMM-Macau Medical Center has closely aligned with the SAR government's policy principle of "prevention first, proper healthcare," prioritizing public medical services, actively leveraging Peking Union Medical College Hospital's rich clinical experience, management system, and talent advantages. It has achieved remarkable milestones in medical cooperation between the two regions, reducing the pressure on public healthcare, treating difficult and critical cases, and cultivating medical talent. The second Academic Week will continue the tradition of Concord Wo, focusing on various themes, featuring keynote speeches and 10 sub-forums focused on various issues of concern to the medical community. He hopes that over a hundred experts and participants from both domestic and international backgrounds will bring inspiring and innovative medical perspectives to Macau's medical community and to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Guests attending today's (27th) event also included: representatives from Macau government departments, members of the Strategic Development Committee and Supervisory Board of Union Medical Center Macau Medical Center, representatives from Hong Kong industry representatives, medical and administrative management personnel from PUMME Medical Center, experts and invited experts and speakers from PUMCH Hospital in Macau, representatives from PUMM, and local medical personnel, totaling over 500 people.
